Sleep quality in postpartum mothers is often disturbed due to physical and hormonal changes, as well as the adaptation to their new role of caring for a newborn. Prolonged sleep disturbances may affect the recovery process, psychological well-being, and overall health of postpartum mothers. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be used to improve sleep quality is breathing relaxation, which produces a calming effect and helps the body achieve a state of relaxation. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of breathing relaxation on sleep quality among postpartum mothers at Sumbersari Community Health Center. This study employed a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The population consisted of all postpartum mothers at Sumbersari Community Health Center, totaling 36 respondents, all of whom were included as the study sample. The instruments used in this study included the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for breathing relaxation, an educational session plan (SAP), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The results of the Wilcoxon statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000, which was less than α = 0.05. Therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted, indicating that breathing relaxation had a significant effect on sleep quality among postpartum mothers at Sumbersari Community Health Center. Therefore, postpartum mothers are expected to practice breathing relaxation regularly as a safe, simple, and effective non-pharmacological intervention to improve sleep quality during the postpartum period.
