Abstract

Hormonal contraception is the most commonly chosen method for preventing pregnancy. One of the side effects of this contraception is weight gain. On average, the increase is only about 0.5-1 kg in the first year and not all women experience it. The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in weight gain among acceptors of 1-month and 3-month injection contraceptives after three uses in the Working Area of Tlogosari Community Health Center. The study design was a cross-sectional comparative design used to analyze differences between groups. The population in this study was injection contraceptive acceptors in the Working Area of Tlogosari Community Health Center totaling 391 people. The sample size in this study was 198 people, taken by proportionate stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted through observation of secondary data, and the data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test with SPSS. The results of the data analysis showed that one-month injectable contraceptive acceptors predominantly experienced mild weight gain in 41 individuals (41.4%), while three-month injectable contraceptive acceptors predominantly experienced mild weight gain in 58 individuals (58.6%). Based on the Mann-Whitney Test, the significance value (Asymp. Sig) was 0.009 < 0.05, meaning there is a difference in weight gain between one-month and three-month injectable contraceptive acceptors after three uses in the Tlogosari Health Center Work Area. The hypothesis in this study is accepted and statistically proven. The conclusion of this study is that there is a difference in weight gain among injectable birth control users one month and three months after three uses in the Tlogosari Health Center Work Area. It is recommended that respondents control their weight gain through physical activity and be able to identify the right contraception by consulting with healthcare workers.
